MEANING•FULL
Our definition of a meaningful life can change over time due to facing certain experiences and simply getting older. Of course these factors are different for each of us with some not so surprising similarities. So let’s talk about what makes our life meaningful.
When I think about living a meaningful life I immediately think of my purpose, goals I am working towards, living a life that matters to me and seeing value in my connections with others. I have been in phases of feeling like I knew what this all meant for me. At each phase of life I entered new territory similarly my definition of a meaningful life changed. At some points the change was so drastic within a few weeks or months.
Admittedly many of the things I was conditioned to think made life meaningful throughout my life are far from what actually does. We have been given reference points by society which typically says material things add value to life. We learned that money, careers within reputable companies, cars, social status is an indicator that our life is meaningful. On the contrary the things that really make us feel life is meaningful become things that give us internal joy. It was actually good health, safety, peace of mind, flexibility and seeking happiness on my terms that made my life more meaningful for me.
As we shift into a new month and enter the last half of 2020, I want you to ask yourself “What Makes My Life Meaningful?”. Once you figure that out make the conscious effort to keep those things at the top of your priority list for life.
