4 Ways To Calm Anxiety

I am finding that since everything is opening back up here in NYC (well kinda has been open) the feeling of anxiety seems to creep up on me a little more. I’m not sure if its because the crowd of people seem more abundant or if my body is adjusting to post pandemic life.

Either way rather than complain and feel helpless I like to find solutions that I can take immediate action towards clearing my mind. Most of the suggestions below are things I have been doing, but in the past I was not consistent. In an effort to be more intentional about my self-care, mental health, and self-development I am making sure these are incorporated into my daily lifestyle.

I encourage you to try different tools and find one that is helpful for you and begin practicing it consistently.

Get Outdoors

Connecting with nature is the fastest way to bring you back to the present moment. A highly recommended grounding tool is to place your bare feet in the grass a.k.a Earthing. Take a walk and admire the world around you. It certainly brings a sense of gratitude.

Breathwork Exercise

Deep breathing by inhaling through the nose, holding the breath and slowly exhaling through the mouth. Doing this for five minutes can drastically improve your mood and lower anxiety levels. Try this right before bedtime.

Crystal Meditation

Meditation in general helps balance your body and mind. Adding a healing crystal such as a Clear Quartz allows you to absorb the properties is holds. You can simply hold the stone between your hands and visualize the crystal healing your body.

Eat Healthy

The last thing we need is to load up on processed foods and sweets during a time we aren’t feeling our best. Don’t even think about drinking alcohol. Add natural foods to your meals have soup or sautéed veggies and reduce meat. Fill up on water and herbal tea.

Last but certainly not least allow yourself to feel your emotions. Show yourself kindness and love during those moments. Remind yourself of all the beautiful things life has to offer. You are in control! Your wish is your command!
