Everyday Self-Care

Over the past year, I’ve been intentional about amplifying my self-care both in how I think about it and in the physical ways I practice it.

For years, I struggled with co-dependency. My life revolved around putting other people’s needs before mine. This energy manifested into everything my career, friendships, and romantic relationships. I was pouring from an empty cup and calling it love.

One day, I decided to give myself that same level of energy, love, and care that I had been giving away so freely. No more waiting for permission. No more telling myself something wasn’t “for me.” I started with small, intentional acts of service for myself little things that sparked joy and added comfort to my everyday life. Over time, these acts became part of a routine that grounds me daily.

Here’s what that looks like for me:

Creating a Comfy Home Life

I invested in making my space feel like me. I added new décor that makes my home feel warm and inviting. I splurged on fancy sheets that make me look forward to bedtime. I treated myself to silky pajamas with a matching robe because I deserve to feel good even when I’m just lounging around. My home is no longer just where I live it’s where I feel safe and at peace.

Bringing The Spa Home

I stopped waiting for special occasions to pamper myself. I stocked up on body scrubs, body butters, and spa gloves. I bought super plush towels that feel like a hug. I invested in an oil diffuser so my home always has a signature scent lemongrass is my go-to. I added small hotel-like touches to my bathroom so I can step into a vacation vibe whenever I need it.

Prioritize Myself Without Apology

I learned the power of “no.” I stopped automatically saying yes to every request. I gave myself permission to take mental health days without guilt. I started booking massage packages on the weekends just because I wanted to. Every “no” to others became a “yes” to me.

Boost My Mood From The Inside Out

I can overthink everything, so slowing down became non-negotiable. I started practicing breathwork and meditation to quiet my mind. I journal daily with no rules, just whatever is on my heart. I even added short daily workouts to move my body and shift my energy. Some days it’s just a walk, other days it’s a challenge I found on Pinterest.

I’ve realized that I’ve given so much of myself to others over the years and while I still will, it’s no longer at the expense of my own well-being. Now, when I come home after everything is said and done, my space is a sanctuary. A place where my mind can soften, my body can rest, and my spirit can recharge.

Self-care doesn’t have to be labeled a certain way. It just has to work for you.
