Quarantine Culture

In the last two weeks I have witnessed the world as I know it slow down. This was another realization of just how busy we truly are. Between racing off to work, running errands, and taking care of others we’ve become so accustomed to always doing. Our culture has become familiar with the motto “I will sleep when I die”.

Over the last three years I have been extremely intentional about slowing down and living a more meaningful lifestyle. As much as I enjoy the comfort of my home, my often-busy routine had become normal. At times if I was not busy, I felt like something was wrong with me. I remember struggling with taking mental health days to just do nothing. For me nothing was mentally and physically, so no thinking about work or doing chores. I had to repeatedly remind myself that it was okay to be still when I found myself fidgeting around.

This time in quarantine has been an extended version of a mental health day. Although the circumstances in which it occurred is undesirable, this time is necessary for many of us. We are literally being forced to enjoy our homes, become mindful of our health, appreciate people around us, and learn more about ourselves. I am not big on watching television, so I am using this time to further indulge in books, creative projects, and spiritual development.

As I look around….well actually scroll around on social media lol I see others doing the same and it makes my heart smile. I am inspired daily seeing other creatives reinvent themselves and their craft in an effort to stay busy. Many doing things selflessly to keep others smiling and entertained as we get through this time. I have had the opportunity to connect with others online that I might not have connected with if it was not for this unforeseen circumstance.

If you can’t already tell I like to look at the beauty and bright side of things. Trust I wasn’t always in this mindset. Moving forward I hope those who are struggling with boredom come to realize just how much there is to do during this time. I can’t wait to see you guys on the other side of this.

XOXO
