IMPOSTERble
Fake, fraud, con, phony, bogus, and wanna be….Well which one is it? Which one am I? Oh shit is this that negative self talk again. Damn! I have found myself having this conversation quite often. I am sure many of you can relate to having these feelings and thoughts that at times randomly pop into your head. Especially when we start thinking of our goals and accomplishments. Its more normal than we think!
Imposter Syndrome is thinking you do not deserve the success you have or dream of achieving. Despite having all the proof our mindset can trick us into thinking otherwise. Its a mixed feeling of you thinking you are just lucky verses knowing you have the skill and ability to be successful. These feelings in many aspects of our life can trigger anxiety. I sometimes have those days of telling myself I am not good enough to do something. That feeling triggers fear and stress. Which in return prevents us from seeing our goals clearly.
The other day I called myself an imposter because I was thinking how can I advocate for self care when I have days I feel depressed. Even further how can I preach about self love when some moments I hate myself. I am not perfect, but trying to lead a mission often feels like I have to be. I had to stop myself and really think about the fact that I know my purpose, so how can I feel this way. I should be able to just go for it and move forward right. That sounds good and easy but it can be difficult to combat those feelings and get down to it.
I am aware that this type of thinking can hinder new opportunities, growth, and stepping out of my comfort zone. I repeatedly have to remind myself that I am better than I think I am. That I am further along in life than I might feel. That I need to be consciously kind to myself. I am big on using affirmations to help me stay in a positive mindset and I truly believe that they make a big difference over time.
So next time you are having Imposter Syndrome feelings quickly stop yourself and talk to someone you trust about it. If that isn’t an option write down all of your accomplishments and success on paper. That should quickly remind your of how great you are and inspire you to push your greatness forward.
These are some phrases which can help Identify Imposter Syndrome in ourselves and others.
