Dough Dreamers

I introduced a creative project that is shifting into a service named Dough Dreamers. Dough Dreamers started as an exclusive group of people coming together to talk about our daily struggles with money. We would meet bi-weekly at my Queens apartment to plan budgets, review debt, and talk about goals.

My living room walls were decorated with gigantic yellow post-it notes with our financial information all over them. Seeing amounts of money we paid and the companies we freely gave money to every month was eye opening. Calculating the debts we owed and how much money we wasted was heart-wrenching to say the least. After a few glasses of wine, we committed to doing better for ourselves and future families. We discussed the disparities between the elders and youth in our family. We acknowledged the generational curses that have been carried down to us when it came to wealth and assets. We had a great deal of work ahead of us.

This type of group support created a space we felt comfortable openly discussing our finances without judgement. We were individuals who had the same wants and needs, but who were on different paths in life. We motivated each other and began shifting our mindsets within a matter of a few weeks. We grew eager to learn about saving options, investing, and tools to help us manage money better.

The realization that the material things we thought we needed didn’t matter to us anymore. Our conversations elevated and living a comfortable life on our terms became our mission. The idea of becoming debt free and building a wealthy future motivated us to take a serious look at our current situations.

As the months passed, we began talking about debts we paid off and how our bank accounts had grown from the first meeting. We finally began seeing the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. We wanted to tell everyone around us how much we’ve changed and to persuade them to follow along. We wanted everyone around us to become full of wealth and life. Our vision was to eventually opening our circle to other like minded individuals and continue to reshape our financial mindset for the generations to follow.
