8 Reasons You Need An Accountability Partner
I lost count on all the times I came up with a brilliant idea. Wrote down all my goals. Purchased a planner to keep me organized. Sat at my laptop researching all the information. Excitedly told a friend about my next big adventure.
Weeks later my idea is still waiting for me to make moves. My list of goals stare at me day after day. The research I did sits in bookmarks on my internet browser. My friend stopped asking me how things are going.
At this point who do I blame. My busy schedule? My overwhelming thoughts? The fact that I had $3.00 in my checking account ? or maybe my Boss for stressing me out? It certainly wasn’t me….or was it?
I blamed everyone except myself. When was I going to hold myself accountable for my lack of doing. I became hard on myself about why I do not follow through with my plans. Why I let the procrastination and fear drive my excitement and motivation away. After all it was ME who could make this change for my life. It was ME who had to put in the work. It was ME who had to stop making bullshit excuses.
I began thinking about ways I could hold myself accountable. I realized that having another person in my business was the way for me. I wouldn’t want to tell someone who cared my plan for me not follow through and be completely embarrassed. Although I did this to myself all the time, it seemed different with a strong supportive person at my side. One who was on a path to greatness as well. One that you could reciprocate similar energy. One who had shit to do in their life and was doing it. One who lived in a comprehensive state of understanding. Find them, befriend them, and begin building.
Here’s why an accountability partner might be right for you…..
Provide Honest Feedback: Having another opinion or pair of eyes on something is valuable in many ways.
Genuine Motivation: They will keep you motivated because they believe in you and care for your well-being.
Ease your overthinking: They can help you sort through your many ideas and though processes.
Help create new ideas: They can help you see things you might have missed or fine tune ideas you have.
Planning Buddy: Assist with creating a real-life plan for you to achieve your goals.
Personal Cheerleader: Help cheer you on and motivate you on the rough days and help you overcome obstacles
Celebration Buddy: There to celebrate all achievements as you hit your mark.
Judgement free: No judgement just a person there to talk through life and push you along.
Think about who your accountability partner could be. Once you’ve established who that person is ask them out for coffee and present the idea to them. Good Luck!
