6 Ways To Shift Out Of a Bad Mental Space
Have you felt yourself drift into a bad space suddenly and not understand why?
I have and sometimes it’s that I woke up in a bad mood because I didn’t sleep well. Other times one small negative interaction can force me into an ugly state of mind or that my mind is full of thoughts and concerns that cause me to just be in my bag.
Despite feeling like life is in an overall good space, we experience days and moments like this. When I feel myself drifting into these moods I allow myself to dwell there for just a little bit. Once my mind gets too crazy I convince myself to focus on gratitude. However, that just does not cut it and I need to do more to elevate my mental mood. Some triggers to negative emotions are working in a stressful environment, dealing with personal issues, or simply feeling fatigued both physically and mentally.
It’s important to become aware of when you are letting a bad day control you. I believe tuning into this awareness is the gateway to improving our mood.
Here are six ways to turn a bad mental space into a positive mental space. Check them out!
Be Honest.
With yourself and others when you are not in the best of moods. There’s no point in pretending you are happy if you really feel like shit. It’s okay to tell people around you “My energy is off today, I’m not in the best of moods, I have a lot on my mind today”.
Take accountability.
For changing your mood after all it is your life. Do not dwell in negativity for long periods of time and instead do something that sparks joy for you. Do not depend on another person to be that mood changer for you. If you want to change you have to do the changing.
Take control.
And think about what it is that has you in a bad mental space to begin with. Once you identify what has shifted in your day you can begin to change things around. Something so simple as journaling about what you are feeling or doing a five-minute meditation can help you gain control of your thoughts and emotions.
Seek Positivity.
By watching something inspirational. Log on to You Tube and watch a motivational speech or a TED talk about something that interests you. I recommend listening to Les Brown. After listening I always feel motivated to take on the world and pay that positive energy forward.
Express Gratitude.
For all the things in your life that you are proud of. Write down what you appreciate most about your life. This is a guaranteed method to instantly boost your mood. Once you see on paper how much you have in your life it immediately sparks joy. Create a list that you can refer back to at any moment.
Use affirmations.
To boost your mood and take your mind off whatever is bothering you. Repeat this to yourself out loud: “I have the power to change and I welcome it”, “I am in charge of my reality”, “I choose to replace anxiety with peace”, “I have the power to manifest my dreams”.
Let go of negativity and trust the process.
