Ways To Stay Positive During Social Distancing
The past several weeks we have been struggling to adjust to COVID-19 and orders to quarantine. Many of us are home watching the news in an effort to keep up with the latest updates. We are experiencing many emotions from fear to grief while we attempt to live through our days as normal as possible.
Anxiety sets in as we wonder what the rest of the year will be like for us. This feeling can discourage us from enjoying the days as best we can. This also places a hold on life for some of us when it comes to focusing on our goals, careers, and future plans. Remaining hopeful during this time could be difficult, but we should remind ourselves and those around us that better days are ahead.
I have been trying to stay positive and rewire how I live my days and think about life. Readjusting has been hard some sometimes and a relief others. Social distancing has really put a lot of things in perspective for me and highlighted some things I might have not valued as much in the past.
I am certainly an introvert so being home has not been hard at all. I noticed that I have started to crave companionship and conversation way more. I have grown to really appreciate the ability to connect with others and share ideas and smiles in person. I had my moments where I felt depressed because I could not indulge in that when I wanted to anymore.
I have taken this time to really analyze how being socially distant has impacted and benefited my life. I can admit that it has increased the feeling of gratitude and love I have for myself and of those around me. Thinking of that alone instantly places me in a positive head space.
Here are a few ways I have been staying positive while socially distancing:
Being Kind to others
I have continued to extend myself for others in need. Whether that was in tangible or intangible ways. Nothing better than feeling like you have helped someone get through a tough time by sharing your resources and showing love. I have a been committed to checking in with friends and family weekly for life updates.
Enjoying Nature
Spending time outdoors has kept me sane many days. Now that I am not rushing here and there or jumping in my car everyday to race off. I have actually taken the time to be fully present and admire mother earth. I swear the trees look greener, the birds are chirping louder, and the sun has been giving me life with no complaints.
Self-care Routine
I have never been a morning person, so not having to race to the office at 7 am has been golden. I now have a morning routine that is founded on self love. I am not affected by outside stressors so I am sleeping better, dedicating more time to meditation, and cooking all my meals. My hair is growing and my skin is glowing due to my many at home spa days.
