Mind Medicine
Are you an over-thinker? Do you have stressors affecting your daily living? Well I am right here with you. I struggled keeping up with the daily grind and maintaining a steady work-life balance. Over time I became short tempered, unhappy, and fatigued. The one thing that saved me was MEDITATION.
I remember the first time I sat to meditate. I had no clue what I was supposed to do or feel. I sat there listening to this tiny voice in my head telling me this was stupid and a waste of time. I quickly got up and distracted myself with those same things I need a break from. Weeks later I was back at it, only this time I decided to study the benefits of mediation. I learned this was a life long journey that required full commitment (like many other things in life). The thought of having a clear mind and bringing peace into my life was all I needed to hear.
Next time around I started with a guided meditation. I used an app I downloaded on my iPhone and I committed to doing 5-minutes each evening. I learned to focus on my breathing over trying to quiet my mind. Breathing alone creates a feeling of peace within the body. I felt renewed and my mental space was much better the next day. My mood was more pleasant and I was in a deep space of gratitude because of this.
As part of my spiritual practice I meditate daily sometimes for up to two hours. My favorite technique is Transcendental Meditation. This is were I set an intention or focus on a specific word to carry me into consciousness. I have learned techniques that work best for me and I use them interchangeably. I often drift into meditation through out the day no matter where I am or what is going on around me. I encourage you to start with some reading and then incorporate 5 to 10 minutes of mediation into your daily routine. Mindfulness is the key!
