I ryze with coffee

Chanel Allure

I’ve been drinking coffee since I was 5 years old. I have vivid memories of sitting at the kitchen table with my late grandfather “Poppie”. He would prepare me breakfast - 1 large pancake, scrambled eggs, and two sausage links. Alongside it would be a small coffee in a little brown cup with a handle on it. For years to come, we would have breakfast at the table with him sharing stories about his life in the south and affirming my presence on this earth as a little black girl.

Over my lifetime coffee has been my comfort food. Especially since I am an emotional eater. I love coffee and my favorite is any dark roast with a splash of creme and sugar. A hot cup of coffee soothes my entire well-being. It helps me sleep, calms my nerves, and makes me smile during challenging moments in my life. It is my go-to thing when I am feeling stressed, sad, or worried. During certain phases of my life I would easily drink up to 4 cups a day.

I am recognizing my severe dependency on coffee and quite frankly it's an addiction. My body has been telling me to slow down by highlighting digestive issues, revealing increased levels of anxiety, and my teeth aren’t as white as I remember them. This revelation has forced me to be honest with myself and practice more mindfulness around my life long habit. A few months ago I switched to decaffeinated coffee as an attempt to wean myself off it. This was my first real attempt at monitoring how my body adjusted and I did surprisingly well. I am even down to one cup a day.

I was recently encouraged by my Aunty to try Ryze Mushroom Coffee. Ryze has six powerful ingredients from Shiitake mushroom that is known for its immune support to King Trumpet mushroom that has anti-inflammatory benefits. What I love about Ryze is the taste and that it is vegan. I was a little skeptical, because I love the taste of coffee. Surprisingly making my first cup was no different than what I was use to. It’s only been a week and I’ve noticed my productivity increase and my appetite decrease. It’s been said that this coffee has gifted so many people good healthy benefits and I am super happy I made the switch.

Not to mention it arrives in this really cute sustainable packaging accompanied by a wooden spoon and a magnet for your fridge. The only downside is the cost, it is roughly $36 for a monthly supply. I don’t mind because I spend way more than that fooling around in Starbucks getting hopped up on their sugary drinks each week. So far, So Good! I am really excited and proud of myself for making this change to better my health, while still being able to enjoy my favorite nostalgic drink.
