Clear Vision...Board

Several years ago I read an article about vision boards and became so excited about creating my own. I ran out and purchased stacks of magazines to begin my new project. I love arts and crafts so I eagerly paid a visit to Michaels Craft store to pick up some pretty paper, tape, a glue stick and a few other things. That night I sat in the middle of my living room floor cutting out all the things that looked good and that I decided I wanted. Hours later my first vision board was created.

For months my board hung on my bedroom wall, but with no real movement in my life. Every so often I would update it by adding a few new photos of luxury cars, vacation destinations, and inspirational words. Over time my wants shifted to a higher place and those photos glued to my board became so far from what I really needed in my life. Back to the drawing board, I flipped through a few old magazines and this time I was completely lost. I had to ask myself “What do you really want Chanel ?”. I was scared because for the first time I had no clue. Did I really want a pink Lamborghini? Did I really want to live in six bedroom mansion on the beach in Hawaii?

It occurred to me that back then I was doing my vision board for fun because it felt good cutting out a pink Lambo. These were just random things I thought I wanted because they sounded good. I realized I had no clear picture of what I truly wanted. I had no clear vision of the direction I was dreaming about my life heading. My vision board was useless and it was supposed to be a roadmap to my dreams. It took several months of me sitting with myself and experiencing life for me to get clear about where I was going. I really needed my heart and mind to agree with what my future would look and feel like.

My current vision board is exactly what I need and want for my life. I separated my board into the below categories:

  • Personal & Spiritual Development

  • Relationships & Family

  • Career & Finance

  • Home & Leisure

My new vision board does not solely focus on things I wish to acquire, but more so on how I envision growing inside and out. Each area had to be specific and intentional. I wanted my goals to feel real and to be attainable in my eyes. To my surprise a few things that are on my board have manifested for me. That realization gave me added confidence that I am heading in the direction of my dreams. Creating a vision board that feels organic to our life is how we cultivate a life of abundance.
