Meditation is one of the most important parts of my spiritual practice. It has played a vital role in perfecting my daily routine and lifestyle. It’s a beautiful way to slow down and tap into a higher level of self-awareness.

Life gets busy as we spend time keeping up with the demands of the world. We are rushing to work, constantly planning our dreams, catching up on TV series, and giving spare time to social media scrolling. We owe that same amount of intention to ourselves. Meditation is a reminder to relax your mind and body.

Challenging at first, but I promise you over time it gets so easy. There are three meditation techniques that I use to relax, clear my head, and fuel my entire well-being.

Guided Meditation

The one I initially started with and which is highly recommended by most. Guided meditations are helpful because you just need to be still and listen. The sound of the instrumental and the voice of the teacher will help you relax within a few moments. You can find an app on your phone to get started.

Mindful Meditation

Gaining control of your thoughts isn’t easy especially if you are an overthinker like I am. This technique is great for calming your mind and body. It helps you slow down your thoughts and decreased negative thinking. Start by sitting in a quiet area that feels comfortable for you. Close your eyes and begin focusing on your breath. If your mind starts to activate, allow it for a few minutes then slowly bring your awareness back to your breathing.

Shower Mediation

Some might prefer a bath meditation both are great. A perfect way to de-stress after a crazy day. Set the tone in your bathroom with music, candles, and your favorite body wash. Allow the water to splash down on your face. If you are in the tub allow your body to fully relax and sink into the water. The warm water has calming effect on the body. Close your eyes and breathe in for a count of four seconds and out for another count of four seconds. I love this technique because it reduces my anxiety almost instantly.

If you continue to struggle with meditation. I suggest finding a meditation style that is best for you and begin practicing it in small increments of five minutes per day. I’ll talk more about this in another blog post.
